Who this is for

You did everything right. Something still feels off.

You trusted your surgeon. You showed up to your appointments. You followed the precautions. You did the exercises they gave you.

And something still feels off.

Maybe you're limping a little more than you expected. Maybe your back started aching in a way it never did before surgery. Maybe you got back on the golf course and your follow-through is just gone. Maybe you tried a hike and your hip fatigued in ways it didn't even before the operation.

Or maybe your surgery is still ahead of you and you're determined to do this right the first time.

Either way, this book was written for you.

The gap

What you got at discharge was a handshake and a sheet of paper

Here's something most patients are never told. Hip replacement surgery fixes the joint. It does not fix everything else.

For years before your surgery your body was quietly building compensations around a deteriorating hip. Shifting weight. Shortening your stride. Tightening some muscles, switching others off. Your nervous system rewired itself around the pain.

The surgery removes the pain. Those compensations don't come out on the operating table with the old joint.

That is the gap this book fills. 178 pages of what should have come home with you.

How the book works

Before, During, and After

Three stages, eight parts, twenty chapters. Read it front to back or jump straight to where you are.

Stage One

Before

The decisions you make before surgery determine the recovery you have after it. Prehab, surgical approach, and the one choice almost nobody makes deliberately.

Stage Two

During

The first days home, a full week-by-week roadmap, the warning signs, scar tissue, strength, balance, gait, and the return to golf, trails, and the garden.

Stage Three

After

Staying strong for life. What long-term hip health actually takes once formal rehab ends.

Who wrote it

Dr. Andrew Gorecki, PT, DPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy · Fellow of Applied Functional Science · Owner, Superior Physical Therapy

In 2006 I herniated a disc and went the whole route: medication, injections, and eventually surgery. The herniation came back two weeks later. I was starting PT school, and it was there that someone finally looked past my back and found that my right hip had stopped rotating. Restore the hip, and the back healed on its own.

That experience is why this clinic assesses how the whole body moves rather than treating the spot that hurts, and it's why this book treats your hip replacement as connected to the rest of you rather than a part that got swapped.

Questions people ask first

Is the book actually free?

Yes, including shipping. We wrote it because most people in Northern Michigan going through this get almost no guidance after discharge, and because a portion of the people who read it eventually come and see us. That's the whole model.

My surgery hasn't happened yet. Is it too early?

It's the best possible timing. Part One is entirely about the weeks before surgery, and prehab measurably changes where you land at week six.

I'm months out and stuck. Is it too late?

No. The scar tissue window has closed, which makes some things harder, but harder is not impossible. Chapter 7 explains what changes and what to do about it.

Do I need a referral to see you?

Not in Michigan. Direct access means you can book a physical therapy evaluation without going back through a physician first.

What do you do with my address?

We post you a book. That's it. We don't sell, rent, or trade mailing lists, and you can be removed from ours with one reply.

Start tonight. The post can catch up.

The digital copy is in your inbox within the hour. Read chapter 7 first if you're already past surgery.
