Most people who call us have already been told to live with it. Or they have had an injection, or a scan, or six weeks of something that did not hold. They are not looking for a sales pitch. They want to know whether anything can actually be done.

So we give away twenty minutes to answer that.

That sounds like a small difference and it is the whole thing. Pain tells you where the body is complaining. It rarely tells you why. The knee that hurts is often the joint paying for an ankle that stopped moving two years ago, and you cannot see that by pressing on the knee.

What happens in the twenty minutes

• 0 to 4 minYour history, and the one question. Not only where it hurts. What you used to do that you have quietly let go of.
• 4 to 15 minWe watch you move. Standing, walking, bending, loaded. Not lying on a table.
• 15 to 20 minYou get told what we found, out loud, in plain English, while you are still standing there.

You keep that answer whether or not you ever come back. And if we do not think we can help you, we will say so, and we will tell you who can.

You do not need a referral

Michigan lets you come straight to a physical therapist. You do not need your doctor's permission to ask a question, and this costs you nothing but the twenty minutes.

Anyone carrying something that has not settled. A hip, a knee, a back, a shoulder, a foot. Whether it started last month or you have had it for years, and whether or not you have ever been a patient here.
