Hand Therapy

Superior Physical provides the most state of the art hand therapy available in northern Michigan.  This hand therapy includes incorporation of the idea that the hand is attached to the rest of the body and it is required to move around us or let us move around it.  Functional approaches to hand physical therapy include analyzing the individual persons activities and developing a plan for how to get that individual to return to previous activities.  This plan will be very different for each person.  For example some patients require their hands and wrists to function in sport where they may be decelerating their bodies at ground impact in sports such as football and hockey.  Some patients will require their wrist and hand to hit objects such as in construction, hockey, and baseball.

Traditional physical therapy treats the hand as if it were an isolated object that only opens doors and feeds our faces.  Superior Physical Therapy recoginizes that the hand is a very complex and important extension of who we are.   Each therapy plan of care should address each person as it relates to what activities they desire to return to.  By using a functional movement and manual therapy approach Superior Physical Therapy will help you achieve your goals faster and more functionally.

It is important to realize that all physical therapists are trained to treat wrist and hand dysfunctions.  You do not have to go to the hand surgery physical therapy clinic. It is your choice where you go for physical therapy and all physical therapists are equally trained to treat wrist and hand conditions.

Common causes of hand and wrist pain that we have had success treating include:

  • Carpal Tunnel Surgery
